Honoring Childhood, Family, and Community
At Alder & Alouette, we believe childhood is enriched by beauty, belonging, imagination, and meaningful connection. We welcome families, educators, makers, and children from many diverse backgrounds and strive to offer a shop where people feel respected, valued, and at ease.
We choose books, toys, art materials, handcraft supplies, and learning tools with care, and we continue to learn as our understanding of childhood, culture, history, and community deepens.
Land Acknowledgement
Alder & Alouette is located on the ancestral and traditional lands of the Squaxin Island Tribe. We honor the Squaxin people’s enduring connection to this land and recognize their stewardship, history, and continuing presence in this region.
Waldorf Education
We are inspired by many aspects of Waldorf education, especially its reverence for childhood, imagination, rhythm, story, art, music, handwork, and meaningful learning.
At the same time, we recognize that every educational tradition has a history worth examining with honesty and care. We are committed to choosing resources and practices that honor the dignity, belonging, and humanity of all children and families.
